The night my salary got credited…

I couldn’t sleep.

It was 13–14 years ago.

I was working at a Big 4 firm, wearing a sharp suit, using a premium laptop, and carrying a corporate ID that conveyed authority.

To the world, I was a “high-flying consultant.”
Inside? I was quietly drowning.

The “Salary Credited” message pinged.
I saw the SMS. For a moment, I smiled.

Then the list began in my head:
EMI. Rent. Parents’ expenses. Groceries. Credit card. Petrol.

By the time I finished, the number felt like a cruel joke.
I wasn’t earning. I was recycling.

And behind the big brand name and the perfect LinkedIn title, I was… surviving.

The next morning, half-broken, I called my grandfather, “Daddu, I feel like I’m working only to keep the lights on.”

He said something I still remember word for word:

“Stability is good, but not if it kills your dreams. Don’t let survival become your identity.”

That line hit harder than any feedback form ever could.

It planted a question I still ask every client today:

Are you working towards something, or just away from fear?

Many professionals don’t lack opportunity.
They lack the courage to pause, reflect, and rebuild.

When “salary credited” feels like a survival alert, not success, it’s time to reset your story.

Have you felt this silent trap behind a fancy title?
