Every morning, I walk around 4-5 km. Today, I was halfway through. I felt something inside my shoe was pinching me. The road was full of small gravel. One of those would have entered my shoe.
I was thinking of three options:
1] Immediate Relief: Stop and take it out. It would have broken my walking rhythm.
2] No Relief: Keep suffering but keep walking. It would have been an uncomfortable rest of the walk.
3] Mid-way: Adjust my foot to avoid pressure from the gravel and stop at a logical point to take it.
I went for the mid-way path.
When we face challenges at work, the first strategy that comes to our mind is “immediate relief“. Looking for another project, boss, or job is the answer. The downside is a hasty decision that can break the rhythm of your career growth.
Alternatively, we keep suffering and accommodate so much that it breaks our confidence. There is “no relief“.
The “Mid-way” strategy is to take our focus off the problem and focus on working out a solution that is beneficial in the long and short term.
There is no perfect strategy.
Yet, we can build strategies that best suit our personal and professional requirements.
Which strategy has worked for you in your career journey?
