Courage and Confidence

Exactly nine years ago, I decided to try something new. Despite warnings of difficulty, I found myself in Denver, CO, USA, with two friends, planning to drive to Glenwood Springs and trek to Hanging Lake.

The trek proved to be a challenging experience in many ways: We had to cover several kilometres on a mountain covered with snow and patches of ice. Our shoes were usual sneakers without any spikes, which reduced our confidence. Many parts of the trek were dangerous, with a constant fear of falling off sharp cliffs.

Yet, it was a rewarding experience. The beauty of the hanging lake on a mountaintop was surreal. It was our reward. My confidence to venture into unknown paths increased considerably. Finally, I became more courageous as a person after this experience.

Often, at work, we are thrown into things we have never experienced. These will carry the risk of failure. We may not have all the tools or support to handle them. Yet, with courage and a growth mindset, we can conquer them.

“Dar ke aage jeet hai!” (You win when you conquer your fear).
