Our apartment’s bathroom tiles have gathered an annoying red stain. Whenever I used the bathroom, two questions came to my mind – how did this happen, and how can this disappear?
I researched and found many options, but I worried about the risks and costs involved. My mind played devil’s advocate – “Will this cause permanent damage? Will this lead to bigger expenses in the future?”
Desires never lead to outcomes. Action does.
I called someone who has worked in installing wall tiles in my apartment. The person suggested, “Sir, get some acid from the hardware store and pour it on the tiles. Wash it after an hour.”
I trusted him, but my intuition disagreed. I found a clue and went to a nearby hardware store where the owner, whom I knew, recommended a trusted brand of tile cleaning solution.
Having a solid inner voice saves us a lot of future pain.
The price was four times that of the bottle of acid. I applied the solution – after 30 minutes, the stains disappeared. I felt relieved. I saved on replacing the tiles and considerable future expenses.
We seek advice from many – family, friends, colleagues, bosses, mentors, gurus/babas and even unknown people. Everyone will offer something based on their worldview. Yet our judgment must prevail.
Good advice can be Game-changing. Bad advice can be equally damaging.
My two cents:
“Build two things – a network of trusted advisers for different aspects – life, career, financials, and relationships. Secondly, work on building good judgment and decision-making skills.”
